How can I tell if I have a dot matrix printer or a laser printer?

I am looking to be published and I was recommended to use a laser printer instead of a dot matrix one. I'm not even sure which I have.

If you bought your printer any time in the last 10 years it's not a dot matrix, lol.
It is probably an ink jet. (i.e. it uses liquid ink that comes in replaceable cartridges that cost a fortune)

Dot matrix printers have a very distinct clicking sound when they print. Also, they are rarely used anymore. Laser printers typically print fast and some emit odors. They are common in workplaces and offices. Ink-jet printers are the most common for home use.

if it is really loud and uses ribbons it's dot matrix
if it uses little ink cartridges it is ink-jet
if it uses dry toner it is laser
