It depends on how many Ml of ink your print cartridge holds.
Print is print and all should use the same amount of ink to print the same thing with same type font.
It is like some cars having a 12 gallon gas tank and others having a 30 gallon gas tank.
Some cartridges have all colors in one where other printers use three cartridges and some use six. You just replace the one that runs out.
I use a 1994 year style Canon BJC 250 and it only has a 13 ML ink capacity and I keep the black cartridge in it mostly as I do not need color.
I do keep a color cartridge on my desk shelf in case I need to use it.
Color cartridges do not last as long as it uses from the red, yellow and blue to make the black. Cartridge is same size as the black only but does not seem last as long as when one color runs out it can not make black..
If all colors are in the same cartridge and one runs out you then have to buy a new cartridge unless you refill your own.
I do refill my own black cartridges and am on my second cartridge as one print head finally went bad. Not bad for 8 years of use. Have refilled them about 27 times as I mark it on the ink box and I just checked.
Mine is easy to refill where some are not. Most sites tell you how to refill them and then you can decide.
I get my ink out of Canada and get the pretty good size bottles. Maybe 250 Ml, as I am not sure. www.re-inks.com. Was, if you spent over $??.?? they paid shipping and the last order I got a friend to order a bottle too. Seems it was about $12.50 a bottle and seems as I got two and he got one. Think they have a place in Nevada now too.
I also use the ink kits with the syringe and needle as I tried the plastic bottles, which you squeeze to get the ink out, while filling a color cartridge and they are messy to work with. Do not mess with them.
Also whatever type you may decide to refill, be sure not to do it where you could mess up the floor or carpet. I always put down plenty of paper and some will drip for a while and if one is cracked all the ink will leak out so is best to put in container or the tub over night to assure there are no leaks. Before taking out of the tub be sure none has run into the cabinet and would maybe drip while taking back to where you use it.
Always put a little less than it will hold and it is safer.
I just do not want anybody to make a mess because it is possible as I have seen it done. Ink does not easily come out of carpet.
Because I do it does not mean you should do it. It just saves me a lot of money not having to buy cartridges. Another option only.
I even went on Ebay and bought three more printers just the same in case mine ever stops working as I like it so well and it is a small size printer and does all I want it to do. I have a lifetime supply. Maybe stupid but that is how I do things,
Some printers are really cheap as the manufacture will make his money on ink cartridges.
Maybe you need to check out the laser printers that use no ink. But first cartridge is probably a starter cartridge and will not print as long as the next one you buy.
Be sure to check out the cost of the laser replacement cartridge as they cost too. Ask how long the cartridge in printer should last.
A lot of copiers are laser and the cartridges are pretty expensive. I have a Xerox and hope both do not go out at one time.Probably about $300.00.
