It is a bit tricky out there, i used to have the same problem.but what i experienced is as follows.

please follow these steps.

1_ uninstall the printer and dont connect it to your PC.

2_ insert the installation CD into the computer while the printer is not connected.

3_ continue with the installation.

4_ at some point the setup will ask you to connect the printer.

5_ than connect the printer and it will start installing the drivers.

6_ while the setup is finished restart the computer.

7_ open the notepad and write something.

8_ go to print select this printer f380.

9_ and give it a print . i am sure it will work.

10_ come back to yahoo answers and select my answer as a best one.

Note: the tricky point here is that you connect the printer before installing it. so please install it and connected when the setup asks for it.

open the device manager,[right click my computer, properties, hardware then device manager] look under printers, click on your printer device, delete it. shut down the computer, remove the printer. turn the computer on, reconnect the printer then install the drivers again.

go to http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_F380

and select:

"For advanced functionality such as printer status, maintenance features, scanning and photo card unload use the HPLIP driver (which includes HPIJS)."

the HPLIP driver

if this doesnt work, search google for:

hp f380 drivers and search until you've found one
