Question:
Laser printer - cardstock?
2006-02-24 21:03:20 UTC
I have spent the last year researching printers....I have spoken to hp several times about which printer is best for printing invitations and note cards. I finally chose a printer - hp laserjet 3600 which has outstanding quality. My problem is that the printer is curling my card stock! Can I solve this problem by choosing a different card stock? Or do I need to take the laser printer back and buy an inkjet?

Some HP printers have settings which can adjust the fuser temperature either automatically when the proper media is chosen/ or manually in the printer properties. Check your printer to see it this applicable.

Also note that laser printers use heat to bond the toner to the card stock.

The card stock should be labeled for use in laser printers.

From the 1st source:

Use paper compatible with your printer

When choosing business card stock, make sure it's compatible with your printer type. For instance, if you use paper with Glossy coating (Magnetic even worse) in a laser printer, you may end up with broken printer!

If you're using the cardstock in the regular paper tray, you might want to try the manual feed tray instead. On many printers, this provides a straighter paper path than the regular internal paper tray, reducing how much heavier sotck paper gets curled. You might also want to try a somewhat lighter weight cardstock - if you're using 90lb cardstock, 80lb or 70lb may curl less.
