HP Printers - all junk? Is there a better brand?

Question

Have used nothing but HP printers since before 1989. But in the past year 2 new HP printers have been troublesome in use at home.

Had a HP OfficeJet 4215 that lasted about 13 months and then blew the print head.

Bought a HP 1510xi All-In-One. Paper jams whenever you try to print an envelope. Downloaded software updates last week. Went to print today and the envelope jammed. Now the ON/OFF button flashes - but there is no printing. The error message states: Trouble Printing

The TROUBLESHOOTER doesn't handle this - it tells you to print a page. But if it could print a page, there would be no problem.

What printer would you recommend?

hp now makes a printer with 6 separate ink tanks. that would be the hp we like most at work. however, we all own canons. canon makes separate ink tanks also and seems to know what they are doing (most of the time). if you go with canon though, make sure you do not get their new printhead-style cartridge printers. horrible.



i would only recommend epson if you are a photo professional, as their inks clog really badly, often forcing the user to buy yet another printer and getting stuck in this cycle. it is not fun.

With any computer, depends on what kind of paper it will print. Read the instruction. Just like I told one guy, the paper to print pictures is different from printing photos and the ink is different too.

So anyway, back to you. Find out what is causing the paper jams. On my Hp 7960 i was having problems till I corrected my paper jam problems.



If anything else, email the tech support and maybe they can help you further. As far as recommendation of a computer, it is a matter of price with me. And to recommend a printer, I would have to know what you want it for. There is a difference between casual use, going to college, or running a business.

First just buy an HP printer not an all in one..HP is the best printer for most things, but photos get an Epson. Envelopes make sure you are loading them right. I have two HP printers and two Epsons I do most printing on the HP's except my pics. But you have to make sure you load the HP's with the right amount and size envelopes and ma sure they are not to thick. Envelopes are a pain. as the flaps can hang things up.

I highly recommend HP printers. They are more reliable than any other brand out there.



One thing to keep in mind if your printers are breaking down is their duty cycle. The two models you mentioned are very basic low-end models. If you do a lot of printing, you should consider stepping up to a higher model that is designed to handle your volume.



Avoid Lexmark at all costs. They are of very cheap build quality. Also avoid Epson. They produce nice photos, but they are have horrible ink efficiency and are prone to head clogging.

HP printers are ok. I have had one that has worked fine for 2 years. I prefer Epson though.

properly, i do not imagine you may replenish those, yet Kodak printers are extremely solid! I have one and its produced all solid high quality stuff thus far, and that i have had it for very nearly a three hundred and sixty 5 days. regardless of the indisputable fact that the major bonus of Kodak is the fee of the ink cartridges! 0.5 the fee of lexmark, and they very last more! purely a concept for you there!

Sounds like you have a paper jam. Open all the doors that will open and see if you can find a piece of paper in the rollers or stuck in the gears.
