Question:
Is anyone having a problem with Windows Vista recognizing an Epson CX4800 printer?

I have tried both the 32 and 64 bit drivers downloaded from the Epson support site. I continue to get a message when I connect the printer that Windows does not recognize the USB device. The printer works with our other XP PC's.

it may be that Vista and the drivers for that printer are not compatible, i would check that first. I ran into a simillar problem with my all in one printer and a webcam. Some manufacturers are updating drivers to work with Vista, others on the down side are not... in my case Lexmark decided that they werent so I have to get a new printer.... Good Luck!

I have printer problems under vista my Epson has a driver which is basic the programme in CD which prints labels direct to disk will not work so in one foul sweep my epson is very limited

my lexmark is not supported for vista it seems that the manufactures have decided that the life of a home machine is 12 -18 months anything older can go to the scrap yard

try loading your printer first Microsoft may have a generic one sorry cannot help further

maybe if all the printer owners let down with driver problems sent an email on 3rd September to the manufactures they would realize how many customers they have upset.

USB drivers must be installed correctly.

After you download the correct driver file from Epson - I would imagine that you are not using a 64 bit system - you want the 32 bit drivers. -

Unplug the USB connection from your computer.

Run the .exe (the driver folder) that you downloaded.

After the drivers are installed - shut down your computer.

Plug the USB connection back into your computer making sure that the printer is turned on also.

Windows should recognize the printer and begin to install the drivers with your permission.

For issues like:

1.Vista cannot connect to XP printer share

2.Printer spooler stopped working

3.windows vista print spooler wont restart

Well.... Vista... I have it on my new networked pc.

It looks great

Like connection to my XP/Vista Shared printer. It just doesn't work !

Yesterday I found a great workaround for this not solved Microsoft Windows problem.

But what was my problem exactly ?

I wanted to use my Windows XP/Vista shared printer (HP Laserjet 1020 in Wi-Fi Lan{or regular LAN}).

So I tried adding a new network printer.

I found it, I can see the properties.... but I cannot connect.

On my Windows XP/Vista machine, it says that everyone can use this shared printer.

Hell, even my other XP laptop prints on this printer

But... Vista thinks it cannot ! It just refused to connect !

So.. the solution

=============================================

Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computername\printername ie. My computer's name is "Web-PPC" and the printer name is HPLjet1020 so I typed in \\Web-PPC\HPLjet1020

Now... press cancel. (yes press cancel !)

Choose Add a local printer (what ... again ? Yes again.. I told you this is a great workaround)

Press Next choose your just created new port.

Choose your printer from the list.

=============================================

And Voila .... it works

Ain't Vista great !

The Epson drivers are fine for your product. Check your system type (Control Panel > System) to check if using 32-bit or 64-bit Vista.

Vista also requires a USB2.0 MFP driver to be installed, which you would need to browse the CD for. Enter Device Manager and update the driver, insert your Vista CD-Rom and let it search the disc. The MFP needs to be recognised by Vista before it can properly install and configure the Epson drivers. Contact Epson if you need guidance on finding the specific file required for USB 2.0 MFP (Hi-Speed) for Vista.

you need to make sure that its Vista drivers. Alternatively, first install the driver and thren connect the printer after a restart
