remember the technological leap from 8-12 pin dot matrix printers to 24 ? gosh the quality was such a step up ! and even if 'banding' was reduced by 80% , you'd be like 'look at this - this is phenomenal print quality'

i use to fantasize about owning industry strength colour lazer printers back then heh.

remember those good old days of the dot matrix printers ? did u own one ? what model was it ?

Those were the days. I had an Epson 9-pin then a 24-pin model and was wowed by the fantastic imrovement in the print quality! Recently, I came across some output I did by way of a newsletter - it made me cringe. The printer had set me back about £250 in the late 80's - think what can we get today for that kind of money!

The matrix is typically the device that holds the one or two cartridges in the machine. It also can be removable or fixed into the printer. It simply sends the cartridge(s) a code which tells them how much ink to release and when to release it. The more pins basically controls speed and accuracy and can also make the printed image appear crisper. The 24 pin will definitely print better and somewhat faster than the 9. You need to be more concerned with the cost of the ink and the number of pages per minute ppm the printer can produce for both black and white and color. This will give you a precise measurement of how fast the printer works. I hope this helped you out! -Brandon

Yep. I use to have one, but I don't remember the model as I was a kid. I also do remember replacing tons of their printer ribbons in the library I worked at on campus. When I was in college (I graduated in 2005), our library had used the dot matrix printers until they went to regular all lazer printers around 2003. In a way, it kinda sucked because we now had to pay for all of our copies if we wanted something printed. Although the dot matrix printers weren't all that great, they were good enough to print off some online articles or whatever you needed to read for classes and whatnot.

I used to work for Star Micronics that made dot matrix printers so yes I do remember them.

I can't remember the make or model but I had one on my Amiga 500 when I was a boy. I love the sound they make.
