Lexmark Z600, inkjet
I followed all the insturctions in the booklet that came with the refill kit. The cartridge hadn't been empty for a long time, infact it was still printing (kind of)

I refiled the black cartridge by drilling a hole in the top and putting 10ml of black ink in to the hole. the instructions said not to put a stopper in the drilled hole.
I left it over night, ink kept coming out of the nozzle. I put it in the printer and ran a alignment, it came out very poor, I fiddled with some settings and now the pages come out plain white.

After a few days., loads of ink dripped into the bottom of my printer from the nozzle, I've taken it out, I left the nozzle resting on a tissue and now LOADS of ink has been absorbed by the tissue.
I used the pink liquid that came with the kit to clean it every time.
Did I do it wrong or is this just a gimmick?

dont stress - all you've done is accidentally overfill the cartridge. They are supposed to take 7 mls of ink, not 10. And if it was printing ok b4 u refilled it, it probably still had some in it. The excess ink is dripping out of the print head (or nozzle, as you called it). The fact that it is coming out tells me that its not clogged and should work great after u fix it. Those cartridges are really touchy when it comes to refilling, they wont print properly if they are over filled, they just leave blobs and streaks across the page. Here at work we have a special hose connected to a vacuum to suck out the excess ink. What u could do is insert the empty syringe back into the hole that u made and draw back on it, pulling ink back out of the cartridge. Then wipe the print head (nozzle) with tissue to make sure its not still leaking. If its still leaking, try drawing back a bit more and leave it rest for a few on tissues (this is absorb excess ink). Wipe the head and hopefully it wont leak anymore. If it does, you might want to just bin it, and then next time just insert 5mill. Good luck x

Refilling a cartridge isn't as easy as putting ink in.

With a tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, lexmark cartridges give me a hard time.

The fact is that if your nozzles are clogged, the screen behind the nozzles is blocked or damaged, the electronics are damaged or the sponge is too dry refilling just isn't going to work.

The hardest cartridge I re-manufacture is the lexmark 16/17.

As a side note a 17 will only hold about 5 ml of ink. The cartridge is leaking because it is overfilled.

You probably did everything right. Sounds like you did. But sometimes cartridges just go bad. I have had this problem myself. Refilling the cartridge usually goes smoothly, but everyonce in a while you get a cartridge that just doesn't hold.

I only have one color cartridge but the refill kits come with 3 ink tanks, where do I refill it?

Your cartridge comes with 3 sections inside the cartridge. Each section will hold a specific color out of the 3. All you have to do is locate the 3 holes on the cartridge and refill with the proper color. Please do not use the label on the cartridge to tell you where each color is to be injected as it does not indicate the positions for each color. Your refill kit’s instructions will show you exactly how to access the holes.

What should I do if the printer does not print after refilling the cartridge?

1. Step 1: Run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your inkjet printer's manual) and attempt to print a few pages.

2. Step 2: If this procedure does not work, using the syringe supplied in your refill kit, inject air into the top air vent to clean the nozzles. A small amount of ink should be emitted from the nozzles upon injection. (The nozzle is the porous metal piece at the bottom of the cartridge)

3. Step 3: If this procedure does not work your print-head nozzles are probably blocked with dried ink. At this point use the syringe to take out as much ink as possible from your cartridge and read on to the next section.

What should I do if the print-heads are blocked with dried ink?

If your cartridge has been sitting outside for more than a couple of days, it is very likely that your print-heads may be clogged.

1. Step 1: Place the clogged nozzles in warm water and soak them until the dried ink begins to flow from the nozzle.

2. Step 2: After a few minutes of letting the dried ink flow, remove the nozzles from the water and dry it with a soft tissue or cotton swab.

3. Step 3: Reinstall the cartridge and run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your inkjet printer's manual).

4. Step 4: If this does not work, repeat the procedure.

5. Step 5: If your cartridge still does not print after repeating, uninstall the cartridge and place it on a soft tissue or cotton swab with rubbing alcohol in an upside down position. Let the cartridge sit on it overnight.

6. Step 6: Reinstall the cartridge and run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your inkjet printer's manual).

7. Step 7: If none of the procedures above works, then you did your best, unfortunately you will need to purchase a new cartridge because the print-head is probably clogged permanently and/or damaged.

What should I do if my print quality is poor after refilling?

Just follow these 4 simple steps:

1. Step 1: Using a soft tissue or cotton swab clean any ink from the nozzles.

2. Step 2: Reinstall the cartridge, run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your printer's manual) and attempt to print again.

3. Step 3: Poor print quality may also be a sign of overfilling your inkjet cartridge. If this is the case, use the syringe to take out the extra ink and attempt to print again.

4. Step 4: If it still does not print properly, you might have some air left in your cartridge. Using the syringe, take the air from your cartridge, run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your printer's manual) and attempt to print again.

What should I do if there are white streaks in my printouts?

Streaks generally indicate that there are small particles of dried ink sitting just inside the nozzles obstructing the normal flow of ink.

1. Step 1: Place the cartridge nozzles on a soft tissue with rubbing alcohol, allowing some ink to leak out.

2. Step 2: Allow the nozzles to sit for a few minutes before gently wiping it with a soft tissue or cotton swab.

3. Step 3: Reinstall the cartridge, run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your printer's manual) and attempt to print again.

The cartridge is leaking, what could be done?

The cartridge may be overfilled. Allow the ink to flow out, using a tissue or cloth to absorb the ink. The syringe may not have been inserted deep enough or the ink was injected too fast. Review your refill kit’s instruction closely to assure that all steps were followed correctly.

What should I do if ink is continuously flowing from the nozzle?

Check to make sure the rubber stopper is properly placed within the refill hole. If the stopper is properly placed and ink is still flowing, the bag inside the cartridge has most likely been damaged and you will need to purchase a new cartridge. You can still temporarily use the cartridge by covering the top air vent with tape.

What should I do if I get a Low Ink message after refilling?

The ink level gauge may not work properly with refilled cartridges. Because of this, you might get low ink message after refilling. To install the refilled cartridge you might need to override the ink level gauge. Overriding the ink level gauge disables the printer’s ink level tracking feature, but allows you to use refilled cartridges. To override the ink level gauge, p

There's probably a chip on the cartridge that knows that the ink ran out - it has to be reset. You'll have to search the web for instructions for the particular printer model.

It is a rare success that they will work. Never buy refill kits, waisting of money. Even if they will work, it would be far from the great quality. Did it several times. Buy new cartridges...

some printers/cartridges are protected from refiling to make you buy original ink/toner!

if you dont close the hole completely and tightly it will continue to drip. I solved this problem by covering the hole with a hot glue gun; making sure to keep the area as flat as possible. you dont want the glue to pile up because then it will not flow correctly when placed in the printer.
