Instead of printing out the words on paper then gluing them to the index card I need to print directly onto the index card somehow by feeding it through the printer. Its a 5X8 and Id like to be able to see where the words and pictures will be on the index card before I print it

You may be able to set up a custom page size of 5"x8" in your application, or in your printer preferences. I was able to do this both inside of MS Word, and in the printer preferences of my HP laser printer. Depending on your printer, you may need to feed the paper through the manual feed slot instead of a normal input tray.

If you can find a 5"x8" label template, you can also use the Mailings->Labels feature in MS Word to do this too. You may find it a little simpler.

Most printers have an adjustable tray so that you can print on certain size cards and envelopes. Just adjust your tray to the size of the card and as soon as you press the Print button, choose the options first and change the paper size to 5x8 instead of 8.5x11.
