I just pulled my printer out and I haven't used it in a while. The model is an HP Deskjet 1000. I have all the chords and everything are fine as far as I can tell but it won't turn on at all, the blue won't even turn on the power button.

ISSUE: HP laserjet 1000 won't power up -Resolved

The HP LaserJet 1000 printer is unique in that the formatter of the printer resides in a POD assembly that attaches from the rear of printer via USB cable to a communication port on a PC. If the HP LaserJet 1000 printer is plugged into a power source, but not attached to the PC with the USB POD, no lights will appear on the printer. Sometimes there will be a five to six second-long engine test that can easily be heard.

If there is no engine noise on power up, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

If the HP LaserJet 1000 printer has been connected to a PC with an unsupported communication cable (such as a parallel cable), or plugged into a suspect power source, remove it from the power source and from the unsupported communication cable for at least 20 minutes to allow for any capacitors on the printer ECU to discharge. After the 20-minute period, go on to the next troubleshooting steps in this document.

An ENGINE TEST button on the rear of the printer, below the POD communication port, can be used to determine whether the printer is functional. To perform an engine test on the printer, push the button with a non-metallic object (such as a toothpick) while the printer is plugged into a power source. A solid black or striped page will print out.

Turn the printer back on in the following order:

Unplug the printer from the power source.

Attach the HP LaserJet 1000 specific POD assembly to the back of the printer and attach the USB connector to the PC USB port.

Turn on the PC.

Plug the printer back in to a power source.

A green light should appear on the front door of the printer and the engine noise should be audible. If the printer is in an error state, a solid or flashing yellow light will appear instead of the green light. Troubleshoot the error state as necessary. For more information on troubleshooting error states, reference HP LaserJet 1000 Product Family - Printer Light Patterns (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...name=bpl10940).

CAUTION: Only the USB POD assembly should be used to connect the printer to the computer. Using any other type of cables (parallel or network) can result in damage to the printer.
