What does it mean when a digital camera freezes and refuses to turn OFF?

I was going to print some pictures with my camera dock/printer. I pushed print and the camera screen just went black. It wont turn off and its stuck on.

I would take the batteries out. Then it has no choice but to turn off. Install fresh batteries and turn it back on.
