Can you print black and white with the colour inks?

Can you set your printer to print black and white using the colour inks, as my black ink has run out

Actually you can print anything using a colour cartridge but only monochrome using a black cartidge. The printing depends on the thing you're printing using the cartridge. If you print in monochrome or high-res colour using the cartridge, you are not saving your ink in any way. You are gonna finish it in the same amounts.
