I've had this printer for 4 years and it has worked flawlessly, top of the line model in 2002.

Recently the printer stopped working & the Cartridge light continuously flashes !

The docs indicated that this was a print cartridge problem. When I opened the cover door the cartridge trolley located to a postion that indicated the tri-color ink cartridge was at fault. I removed and reinstalled the cartridge per Docs and the problem persisted. I visual inspected the cartridge trolley/holder contact pins & found nothing. I replaced the tri-color cartridge with another compatible non-HP cartridge (HP Cartridges = $35, non-HP = $20) and the problem persisted. Unloaded the printer driver, rebooted, and reinstalled the latest driver, the problem persisted.

Per the Trouble Shooting Docs, I powered down the printer, removed the USB cable, and powered it back up. When I reconnected the USB, the printer tried to print a test page but stalled at the last minute.

Help would be appreciated !

My advice and you may not like it but here it is.

Quit being cheap and go buy a new printer.

Before you stop reading and curse the heavens think of it like this.

How much money have you spent on cartridges for this printer that still doesn't work?

How much time have you spend fixing this printer that isn't worth anything?

How much is your time worth?

If those amounts exceed the cost of the new printer which I will bet it does, you need to go buy a printer.

Not only will you have a warranty that is certainly going to be useless your printer will not break generally until the warranty is outdated. And you get free print cartridges! And you may even get a free USB cable and some paper..

Look at all that added value!!!!!

Any printer you buy today in the $75 + range will be far better then what you have no so quit wasting time and start shopping.

good luck

Clean contacts on printer where tri-color cartridge plugs in with distilled water and lint-free cloth.
