Help with HP Printer Issue?

My printer is a Deskjet f4400 and it stopped working today. I have read online that the problems I have are similar to other problems with HP Printers. When I try to print a test page or clean the print cartridges, there is a message that says 'out of memory' so nothing happens. Also, when I put only my black ink cartridge into the printer (I know it is in the correct slot and is clean) there is an error of some kind. It says 'electrical failed pen error.' Could this be because there is not much ink in the cartridge? Because I want to refill the cartridge, but if there is an error in the actual cartridge, then refilling it would be pointless, right? This morning I tried to print something and the paper did not feed, but now when I try to print something, the paper sometimes feeds, and it sounds like the cartridges are being used, but only a blank piece of paper comes out. I believe there is still ink in my colour cartridge, which does not have an error when I only put it into the printer. Any help would be great, thanks!!

If your time is valuable, just get a new $30-$40 printer.

I just bought one of these. It is great for occasional use.

If you're in a production environment (over 1000 sheets per month) go with a mid range $200 printer.

I really hate printers. I usually let my wife have the printer for her computer and I let her do the printing. But my past experience. If I remember right some of the things I did when I had problems, was to do all the things you did. Then I would go out and buy a new cartridge in the box and try printing something.

Then after I wasted $50, I would uninstall the printer from my computer, unplug the printer, turn the computer off, then plug the printer back in, hook it up to the computer, then turn the computer on, and it will search for new hardware and Windows will install the drivers needed for your printer or it will ask you for a disk.

It is important to do those things in order. If that doesn't work, I give up. You may try to install or reinstall or update your printer driver. To do that, go into your start menu and look for devices and printers open up your printer icon and look for reinstall or update printer driver. You may have a driver problem or you need a new printer. I am sure there are smarter people out here than me, that may give you a better answer that will help you. I hope so. Good luck
