Question:
Do I need a new printer?
2009-02-04 11:48:05 UTC
Hello! I have a Lexmark wireless X4550 printer, its about a year and a half to 2 years old. Recently whenever I us it I get the message 'Please load paper in the auto sheet feeder' when its full of paper. If the message doesn't come up it takes a few sheets and all the paper gets screwed up and it doesn't work anyway ! I can't see if anything is jammed in there! I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems, is it worth me taking it somewhere to get looked at or should I just buy a new one ? X

Try one or more of the following:

Check paper loading

* Load paper with the print side facing you. (If you are not sure which side is the printable side, see the instructions that came with the paper.)

Remove each page as it is printed

* Remove each page as it exits, and let it dry completely before stacking.

Adjust the paper guides

* When using media less than 8.5 inches wide

* To rest against the edges of the paper or media, making sure it does not buckle

Lexmark are amongst the cheapest of all printers, that is why that is the make that retailers usually give with a computer package. It could be that your paper is damp and not feeding through or the sheetfeeder tabs that hold the paper in place are a bit loose. Have a look at these things, try completely fresh pack of paper and if not solved, I would suggest putting in the cd and re-installing to see if that has any effect. If not, I would suggest getting another printer - but go for an Epson.

I can't solve your problem, but printers are so cheap these days it will almost certainly be cheaper to buy a new one than try to get it repaired. A new one is around £100 and a repair will probably start at £20 before must investigation is done.

Does sound like the paper feeder which is usually first thing to go. Do try a good clean with some compressed air first though.

shade inkjet printers have been furnishings in maximum small agencies for some years. they are much less costly (decrease than $60 each and every now and then), final a pair of years and everybody makes use of them. so that they may be the appropriate place of work procedures, correct? possibly no longer. once you do the maths on printing, inkjets might value you an outstanding purchase greater suitable than you realize.

Two things, first your paper may be damp!

Second there is a spray to clean the rollers.
