Question:
What is a Good Printer for Linux?
2013-07-30 10:34:25 UTC
I currently have an HP printer and it doesn't work right under Linux. I have to use the HPLIP driver but even still. it prints only using the color ink. even for black. My Primary computer runs Linux Mint. but I have to keep a windows Machine around for when I need to print something. I want a low cost printer that is known to work well under Linux. Cost of ink is also important. got any recommendations?

HP is the best choice for any operating system as well as being cost efficient. As far as drivers, you have the correct one since you do need HPLip. As far as printing using the color or color and black, deskjet and injet will always do this. You cannot print in solid black or in grey-scale. You will always see little colored dots.

If you select or purchase a Laserjet, your problems are solved.

Different versions of the hplip driver work very differently. Try a different one.

HP printers for the most part work very well with Linux, but a few don't. You might have one that doesn't.

Canon printers don't work well with Linux because Canon does not give a rats **** about Linux and won't make drivers.

Hi There,

HP printers are the best choice for Linux.

Most printer companies do not have drivers that will work with Linux.

I am afraid "it is what it is" for printing from Linux.

Sorry,

Al
