Canon would never charge extra for Drivers for the printer. Assuming you bought the printer new and unopened, most every printer in the world will come with a manual and at least one, sometimes two CDs with Drivers (one might be for Windows, and one for Mac OS X). Insert the disc in your CD drive, and see what happens. On a Mac, the CD will show up on the desktop. On a PC, open "My Computer" and it should be under drive C or D. Hopefully, a window will pop up saying "Canon. Install Drivers" or something along those lines. You might need the master password to the computer. Just follow the steps and then the driver will be installed. AFTER the driver is installed, connect the USB cable to the back of your computer and turn the printer on, and you should be in business.

If Canon mentioned you paying for a driver, they meant there is an extra charge to have an extra copy shipped to you on disc if you lost the original. All drivers are available on Canon's website to download, free of charge.

Uninstall and reinstall using Canon's latest drivers, just select your operating system
