My computer runs Vista and is connected to my printer via a printer port. A second computer running Windows XP is connected to the same printer port. I can print Word documents with no problem. E-mail messages and browser pages print all black. I do not have any of these problems when printing from the second computer using Windows XP. I did not have these problems when both computers connected to the printer through a LAN. Before I installed the print server I downloaded the HP drivers for my printer model for use with Vista. The second computer running XP, which does not have any printing problems, uses a different HP driver that is for use with XP. My first thought was that the problem was caused by the print server, but I don't think that could be the case because the XP computer does not have any printing problems. I would appreciate any help someone can give me. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Did you download drivers for Vista 32 or Vista 64? Dis you download the PCL5, PCL6, or Postscript drivers?

On the following web page press "Start Detection". This will automatically detect the printer and install the correct drivers.

To manually find and install the drivers, download drivers here:

Is the Print Server Vista Compatible? I would check the manufacturer’s website to make sure because Vista works on a different Driver Management Format than XP. You may have to get drivers to have Vista recognize the print server along with the printer, unless the printer is connected through the LAN line again with a Master Computer and the rest being Slaves. For this reason, it could be causing the printer to print “black” or encrypted because it’s not recognizing it.

Take the name of the working driver, find it download it, and replace it on the "prints in black only" computer, but try this first:

And how is the other computer's print page

set up? Go to the print

page (where you select

the number of pages to print, and change the direction of the page),

Reset the color page to print in color.

Welcome to Vista. You may not know it, but you are a beta tester. Congratulations on finding a bug. Submit it to Microsoft.
