Recently bought a magenta toner cartridge from OvernightInk.com, I have removed the safety strip and had the printer recalibrate itself as well as put it in cleaning mode, the printer that I have is an HP Color Laser Jet 2600n, got it for free from craigslist and figured I would clean it up and get it working properly.

All other colors print fine with the exception of a few spots and streaks except for the magenta, which prints a dark blue/black color. I can't figure out what to do to stop it from printing so dark.

This is my first time owning a laser printer and cannot find anything on the internet that will give me an idea of whats wrong. unless the toner cartridge I have is a dud. any help would be appreciated!

It could be a bad cartridge. Do the offline test pages to check the color, then call the supplier to see if they have had similar issues. It is possible someone put the wrong ink into that cartridge (wrong type of ink, not for 2600N).

Send the cartridge back if having problems still. If a second cartridge does the same, then something messed up with the printer - throw it away (that may be why it was free on Craiglist). Possible problem could be some of the contacts that touch the cartridge when it is installed.

it looks like the magenta cartridge was accidentally filled with blue toner. either that or it's empty, in which case the drum is picking up the other toner instead. you should be able to look at the magenta cartridge and see what color toner powder is coming out..

Disconnect printer from computer. Print a test page (see manual on how to do this).

If it now prints correct colors then the printer is OK and the fault is in the computer printer driver. Reinstall printer driver.

If still wrong colors then buy a full set of toner cartridges and install all of them using the instructions.

Print a test page without being connected. If still wrong colors then printer is screwed.

Use it for black and white only.
